I took Brady to his 5 year old well child visit on Friday. I thought I was preparing him for what was to come when I told him that he would need to get shots. That OBVIOUSLY was a mistake in that I put the idea in his head and it started freaking him out. So we get to the doctor and are in the waiting room and he needs to go potty, I let him...no big deal. No one bothered to tell me that in 5 minutes he would be asked to pee in a cup....that hadn't ever happened at any previous well child visit. So we go through all the nurse stuff, weight, height, eye check, etc. then they tell him to go pee in a cup. I go in the bathroom with him (as he is laughing hysterically that he has to pee in a cup...) and of course he can't go. So we go back to the room, tell them "no luck" they bring him a juice box which he downs while I am trying to distract Carter who is mad he didn't get a juice box....the nurse askes him all the standard questions....can you skip..show me, this and that and then we go try to pee again. Nope, not even two drops. Juice box #2 comes in, and by then I have to ask them to bring one for Carter too cause he was going to have a major meltdown if he didn't get a juicebox. The nurse wants to prick Brady's finger to draw a little blood so that she can test his iron levels. He is petrified, hiding in the corner. I tell him it won't hurt and even volunteered to do it first. Even after I had my finger pricked, he wouldn't do it and I had to pretty much hold him down to get his finger pricked. I am somewhat laughing at the way Brady is acting cause he has never done this before. He is still panicking about getting shots when the Dr. comes in. The Dr. was good and joked around with him about things and the way he was acting and such. Then we go try to pee for the 3rd time, Carter is throwing a fit cause he wants the "cup" to get a drink... Brady finally does the deed and we go back in the room. The nurse comes in and Brady is hiding under the table holding onto the leg for dear life and refuses to come out. She brings him a bag full of tons of cool toys and prizes, it peeks his interest, but we won't give it to him until he comes out. Nope, not moving. I tried threatening him (like that ever works) that we would go straight home and he would have to miss his friend's birthday party at Jump on It, nothing. I tried bribing him with the chance to go to the toy store, nothing. So finally I gave him the choice, "easy way or hard way?" He knows what is coming, but still refuses to come out. So the nurse gets another nurse and they get the needles ready....I crawl under the table, push him under the middle bar of the table while prying his hands off of the leg, pull him out, while pulling off his pants and he is screaming to stop pulling his pants off...get him pinned and wham, shots are done before he even knew what had happened. Such DRAMA! Seriously, it was pretty funny, but I wonder now if he will always remember this traumatizing experience......I know I will.In the car, on the way to the birthday party, he asks when he gets to go to the toy store for his new toy!! HA, I don't think so child....
LOVE YOU BRADY
